Area of Study

Mr. Md. Rezaul Karim, currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Law at Leading University, Sylhet. He has been an integral part of the Department since 2018, contributing extensively to teaching, research, and institutional development.

Mr. Karim earned his Bachelor of Laws- LL.B. (Honours), in 2016 and Master of Laws- LL.M. (General) in 2017 from the Department of Law, University of Dhaka, where he graduated with distinctions, securing First Class in both LLB & LLM programs.

He completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) in 2010 and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in 2012, achieving GPA 5.00 and Golden GPA 5.00, respectively, and was awarded the Education Board Talentpool Scholarship in both examinations.

Before joining Leading University as a full-time faculty member, Mr. Karim completed a professional internship at Vertex Chambers, a prominent corporate law firm based in Banani, Dhaka, where he gained valuable practical insights into commercial and corporate law.

Academic and Professional Experience:

Over the years, Mr. Karim has held several academic and administrative positions at Leading University, including Assistant Proctor, Leading University. In addition, he serves as Counsel to the Legal Counsel Committee of LU, a body designed to address legal and ethical matters and to ensure good governance and institutional transparency. He is also an enrolled Advocate of the Bangladesh Bar Council and Advocate of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and is actively engaged in providing professional legal consultancy alongside his academic responsibilities.

Teaching and Research:

Mr. Karim’s teaching and research interests lie primarily in Intellectual Property Law, Land Law, International Human Rights Law, Constitutional Law, Family Law, Law of Crimes, Civil Litigation, and Public International Law. His areas of academic instruction and interest include:

  1. Undergraduate Courses: Legal History of Bangladesh, Land Laws of Bangladesh, Constitutional Law, Law of Crimes (Part I & II), Muslim Law, Clinical Legal Education (Criminal), Code of Criminal Procedure, and Code of Civil Procedure and Law of Limitation.
  2. Graduate Level: Intellectual Property Law, International Environmental Law, Principles of Civil Litigation, Comparative Constitutional Law, International Trade Law and Research Monograph.

Scholarly Publications:

Mr. Karim has authored several peer-reviewed articles in national and international journals, addressing contemporary legal and socio-constitutional issues in Bangladesh. Selected publications include:

Mr. Karim actively participates in capacity-building and academic development initiatives. He has completed professional training courses such as:

International Refugee Law and UNHCR’s Protection Mandate (UNHCR, Bangladesh, 2017–2018)
Clinical Legal Education Program under the Dhaka University Law Clinic (supported by Maxwell Stamp PLC, DFID, and BLAST)

The BIPSOT–Dhaka University Joint Seminar on “Violence Against Women and Children in Armed Conflict: Role of United Nations Peacekeepers’ Operations” held in July 2017.

Mr. Karim has been actively involved in academic leadership and youth development initiatives. As an Ex-Cadet of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) – Air Wing, Mr. Karim participated in Squadron ATE-2015/01 as a Senior Cadet. He has also been a member of the Dhaka University Moot Court Society (DUMCS) and Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS), representing his Hall, Department and University in numerous competitions. Beyond academia, he maintains close involvement with socio-legal voluntary organizations across Bangladesh, working on human rights awareness, public health protection, and community-oriented legal education.

Language and Technical Proficiency:
He is fluent in Bengali and English, with moderate proficiency in Arabic. Mr. Karim is technologically adept, with advanced proficiency in digital research tools, and online education platforms.
